Wiki is a website that allows the creation and editing of any number of interlinked web pages via a web browser. Community websites, corporate intranets, knowledge management systems, and note services are some of commonly used Wiki sites. Wiki can also be used for personal notes.

Wiki is "the simplest online database that could possibly work."

Wikis serve different purposes such as permitting control over different functions (access control). Say, editing rights may permit changing, adding or removing material. Others may permit access without enforcing access control. There are many rules that can be imposed for organizing content.

In the corporate environment, wikis are best implemented behind a firewall for a wholly internal user base.
